Bedworth Civic Hall Volunteers proud as final milestone achieved

Bedworth Civic Hall CIO is extremely happy to confirm this week we moved to completion and to bring into effect the final lease.

Bedworth Civic Hall CIO served notice on Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council on 23rd August 2024 to bring the final lease into effect after confirming the community group lead by volunteers has raised a whopping £250,000 in less than 6 months.

This is the final hurdle in the process which secures 20 years as operators with a secure tenancy that allows for renewal following on from the tenancy agreed in March.

Unfortunately, due to the Council needing more time to complete works in non-public areas and date changes required to the long stop date (which was originally set for 10th May 2024), the process was stalled while the CIO waited to hear back from the Council.

The Councils solicitors then replied as expected with a notice setting completion for the 18th of September 2024. While the CIO wanted to sign the lease as soon as possible, they had to wait for a further reply from the Councils solicitors in respect of matters outstanding. After waiting for a response, the CIO decided to sign the lease as originally agreed to secure the future of the venue. This was undertaken on 17th September 2024.

The Councils solicitors responded to us on the 18th September asking for further changes in order to complete agreed works. The CIO has agreed for the Council to change the lease to allow for works to be completed by 31st October 2024 as long as none of our existing bookings are impacted.

A Spokesperson for Trustees of Bedworth Civic Hall said:

“The lease agreed between us and the Council provides security of tenure for 20 years with a right to renew. This marks the end of a long two year process and community campaign to save Bedworth Civic Hall and secures the venue for future generations, ending any previous demolition or closure plans.

We look forward to working in Partnership with the Council to deliver on promises made to support and ensure the success of this brilliant venue and to benefit the whole Borough and beyond.

The Civic Hall is here to stay, and we look forward to continuing to serve our community. Please keep showing your support by volunteering, hiring the venue, attending events and activities, buying tickets and helping us continue to be a huge success for the community, by the community

Thank you to all our hirers, those who buy tickets, who are coming to shows and importantly the technical, bar, front of house, cleaning, estates, and the whole team of  volunteers who helped the Civic Hall reopen and to continue to be operational.

Special thanks must also go to those who have offered advice and support and stood with us and shown their support and believed in us to make this happen since 2022, especially over the last few weeks.

We are proud to have fought for the community and will continue to work hard to improve our area and outcomes for all the people of Bedworth, Bulkington and Nuneaton.

Bedworth Civic Hall is more than just a theatre, and we look forward to creating community together. The show goes on!”.
